Professional Experience
Dr. Alfredo Vigil has 30 years of extensive clinical and management experience specializing in family medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine and reproductive health issues. For the past five years, he was Chief Executive Officer of El Centro Family Health, a non-profit primary care organization in Española.
Throughout his medical career, Dr. Vigil has been actively involved in community service, volunteering for EMS programs throughout Northern New Mexico and serving on the boards of numerous community and public organizations, including the Community Wellness Center in Taos and Voices for Children in Albuquerque. Dr. Vigil has been a leader in the areas of professional recruitment and retention, medical ethics, and health-care access for New Mexicans. He has served on the University of New Mexico’s (UNM) School of Medicine clinical faculty for 25 years and was a member of the New Mexico Medical Board and the EMS Licensing Commission.
Dr. Vigil is a graduate of UNM’s School of Medicine and performed his family practice residency at UNM as well. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the National Public Health Leadership Institute at the University of North Carolina. He is also a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice.[1]
Planned Parenthood
From 2000 - 2001, Alfredo Vigil served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion business in the U.S.A.[2]
Guttmacher Institute
As of March 2012, Alfredo Vigil served on the board of directors for the Guttmacher Institute.[3]
New Mexico Department of Health
On June 11, 2007 Dr. Alfredo Vigil was appointed Secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH). As the largest state agency, the NMDOH works with New Mexicans to prevent disease, prepare for health emergencies, promote sound health policy, protect vulnerable individuals and provide support and advocacy to individuals with disabilities.[1]
Border Health Commission
As at Feb. 2013, Vigil was a member of the United States - Mexico Border Health Commission.[1]
