Carol Blowers has served as the Vice President of Governmental Affairs at Family Planning Advocates of NYS from 2002 to the present (2012).

DCHI Day of Action

In May 2011, Family Planning Advocates of NYS (FPANYS) hosted the DCHI Day of Action as part of The Diverse Communities Health Initiative of the The Education Fund of Family Planning Advocates of NYS. The coordinators invited lawmakers to the event, including Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins in order that the members of the Family Planning Advocates of NYS could urge the passage of legislation to give health care to 'diverse communities', including required language interpretive services for Limited English Proficiency patients, Medicaid coverage of language interpreters in all health care settings and cultural competence training for health care providers. Loretta Ross, described by the FPANYS article as a legendary women’s movement leader, was the keynote speaker at this event. The FPANYS article states: "Cultural competence in health care is an educational strategy to prepare the future health care workforce to care for New York’s increasingly diverse population." [1]

Interfaith Advocacy Day

Carol Blowers, Ross Levi, Andrew Coates and Demi McGuire were speakers at the Pre-Advocacy Briefing and Dinner of the Interfaith Advocacy Day of May 18, 2008, an event hosted by Interfaith IMPACT of NYS and Reform Jewish Voice of New York State. On May 19, 2008, this event was followed by the Interfaith Legislative Advocacy Day, where teams of participants were joined by experienced advocates and met with key legislators and other policy makers. The issues advocated for were: comprehensive reproductive health care, including sexuality education for teens; marriage equality for same gender couples and dignity for all students and universal health care. Involvement with Clergy For Choice In Action

Carol Blowers and Dennis Ross the director of Concerned Clergy For Choice presented a webinar for Clergy For Choice In Action entitled 'Clergy Lobbying: It Begins With A Relationship', on 14 February, 2012. The webinar focused on 'how, what and why' clergy should lobby for reproductive choice. [3]

Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice

As of 2009, Carol Blowers is on the Executive Committee for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice which was founded in 1973 by clergy and lay leaders in an effort to provide interfaith support for abortion rights.[4]
