Early Life
Keenan was raised in Anaconda, Montana. In 1974 she graduated from Montana State University with a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education. Five years later, she earned an M.A. in education administration from the University of Montana.
In 1974-75, Keenan worked at the Yellowstone Boys' Ranch in Billings, Montana, a Judeo-Christian-based school for abandoned and troubled boys. A year later, she returned to Anaconda to teach children with severe disabilities at Lincoln and Washington Elementary Schools, where she was employed from 1975-88.
Political Career
From 1983-89, Nancy Keenan served as a "progressive" Democratic State Representative in Montana. From 1989-2000, she was Montana's State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
NARAL Pro-Choice America
Nancy Keenan works as the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America.[1]
Campaign for America's Future
On June 2, 2005, Ralph Neas, President and CEO, People for the American Way, Nancy Keenan, President, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Wade Henderson, Executive Director, Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and Nan Aron, President, Alliance for Justice spoke in a plenary entitled "The Fight for the Courts: Will the Right Reverse 20th Century Progress?" at the Take Back America conference which is run by Campaign for America's Future.[2]
